Thousands invited to summer fun day in RCT
Donkey rides, falconry and stilt walkers will all be part of the fun at this year’s RCT Homes Tenant Family Fun Day at Aberdare’s Micheal Sobell Centre on Thursday 28th July.
Tenants from across Rhondda Cynon Taff are invited to come along and join in the free fun at this annual event – which is destined to be bigger and better than ever before!
The fun day will include entertainment for all the family, whatever the weather. This year’s event will be opened by a celebrity guest – identity to be confirmed closer to the date!
Kids will be entertained by donkey rides, the chance to try taming a bird of prey with the falconry team as well as arts and crafts and face painting areas. There will football and rugby skills training with some top players as well as music workshops and a games room for competitions on the Wii and X Box. Ziggie, the caterpillar that loves stories, will also be making a special appearance on the day for a fun story time session with the youngsters.
But there’s fun for all ages! The tea rooms will this year include a performance square with live music, bingo and competitions for all the family. There will also be darts, skittles and free dance lessons to join and learn some new dance moves! Visitors can also watch the 5 a side football matches throughout the day.
The Info Zone, in the main sports hall, will be packed out with stands and information about all aspects of RCT Homes’ work and there will chance to find out more about the Major Improvement Programme – RCT Homes’ massive scheme to refurbish thousands of tenants’ homes all over Rhondda Cynon Taff. Organisations including Age Concern and the Tenant Participation Advisory Service will be on hand to show how tenants can make sure their voice is heard. There will also be free advice from RCT Homes’ Sound as a Pound team on issues such as managing money and how to claim all the benefits you are entitled to. Tenants can also meet their local Tenants and Residents Association.
The highlight of the day will be the RCT Homes Got Talent competition. Open to tenants and family members from RCT Homes the judges will be ready to watch the best talent from around the borough.
At 11 am, tenants who are members of RCT Homes will be able to take part in the Annual Members’ Meeting. Chief Executive Andrew Lycett will report on RCT Homes’ performance to date and there will be a chance to question leading members of staff about the issues that are most important.
RCT Homes is determined to make it the Fun Day bigger and better than last year when around 1000 people turned up and helped make the fun day a great day out! This year there will be more entertainment both indoors and outdoors.
The fun day is free and open to all tenants of RCT Homes. To make it easy to get to RCT Homes are laying on free buses throughout the valleys to take people to the venue for 11 am and bring them home afterwards. Tea, coffee and drinks will be available for free and tenants will also be able to purchase food from a range of stalls throughout the day.
